SAD pets

A friend recently diagnosed her cat with SAD (seasonal affective disorder) read about it here, after reading her post I realized that Rusty is also suffering from this affliction (does that make me a hypochondriac or him one?)

Instead of turing to Victoria Secret catalogues for comfort (like my friend's cat) he has turned to television. (Maybe he's surfing the channels for Baywatch?)

He's having a rough week- the weather warmed up today but then today he got sucked into the couch.

A qualification

I am still digging the rain even if I did just sit through a class in soggy jeans, soggy toes, and with Ronald McDonald hair.

Fall

It's officially my favorite time of year. I've wanted to post about this since Monday (the first day of Autumn) but I haven't had time until now. Because it was the first day of fall I decided to try and find evidence that fall was actually here... and I did.

I know they aren't great pictures, but in my defense I took them while I was driving (probably not a good idea). But look at the pretty leaves!

Not only have the leaves (well a few of them) changed but it has cooled off as well, it's been so nice here! We are getting hit by a Noreastern (I have no idea how to spell that) this weekend. I'm digging the rain but I'll probably be less happy about it if we lose power.

this is the Frizz index from accuweather.com.
I love that they have a frizz index- it's nice to have a warning.

Rusty doesn't like Frizz Emergency days...

Around town

A while ago I said I'd post some pictures from around town and I'm finally coming through. My mom was in town this week and I took the pictures as we walked around Williamsburg.

This isn't a great picture (below) but I posted it anyway- it's the edge of campus.
I took this picture for my niece Bella...

Please read...

Please follow this link, it's a post on another blog. The Bush administration strikes again. Clearly they do not care about women's rights or women's health.

Another reason it's sad Hilary is out of the running...

Another link.

Her views on glitter are similar to mine although I wish she had taken a stronger stance... alas it no longer matters :(

And thanks to Robin for pointing out that Ellen hates glitter ALMOST as much as I do.

More on glitter

Turns out I'm not the only one who hates glitter!

Watch this

I would also vote for the candidate who agrees to outlaw glitter.

Random shrooms

These are under the bushes near my building...

A Stroll Down Memory Lane

I saw this on my friend Jessica's blog and she got some really fun responses so I thought I'd copy her- I even copied her title.

1. As a comment on my blog, leave one memory that you and I had together. It doesn't matter if you knew me a little or a lot, anything you remember!

2. Next, re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you. It's actually pretty funny to see the responses.

Despite the instructions in #2, I don't actually care if you post this on your blog, but it should be fun to see the responses. Thanks to all those willing to participate!

This week

I haven't had much to say lately- and I still don't but I'll give you an update anyway.

School wasn't quite as overwhelming this week and I thought I was doing really well keeping up until I went to one of my classes and realized that I had only done half the reading! The professor had assigned a book and several articles and I read the book but completely spaced the articles. I should have been suspicious when I stopped feeling overwhelmed.

I'm still really enjoying the class I TA for, the students are very enthusiastic which makes leading discussion session far less painful.

Yesterday one of my classes met at the library, I hadn't been there before- that part of campus is really pretty- I would have taken pics to share but I would have felt like a dork. Eventually I'll take some pictures around town to share.

More weather

Well I made it through my first tropical storm and we didn't even lose power. I spent the day reading Thomas Bender's A Nation Among Nations and stayed inside- it was rather uneventful (I don't mean to sound disappointed- in this case uneventful is a good thing).

Even more bad news...

Now we're under a tornado watch too!

TV shows

I'm watching Two and a Half Men and it's the second sitcom I've seen today that dealt with natural disasters. What's the deal- are they trying to freak me out?

Rusty doesn't like the rain, he doesn't want to go out in it, bathroom breaks might be a problem- he could end up holding it for a long time. He seems a little skittish but I could be projecting.

Here's a funny scene from the show.

More bad news

Apparently there is an even scarier storm, Hurricane Ike, that could be headed our way too. Plus, I think I broke my toe- I just stubbed it but now it's all swollen and purple, I'll get over it- I guess there's nothing like a hurricane to put things in perspective.

Hopefully Ike loses some of it's power before it hits land.

Weather

I've been notified by several sources that there is a strong chance of severe weather this weekend thanks to Tropical Storm Hanna.

First, my dad called last night and told me to keep my eye on the weather. Then, I got an email from the College which warned of the storm they even attached a Hurricane Emergency Procedures list. And last, today I got a note from my apartment managers also warning us of the severe weather and giving some helpful tips (ie- if the power goes out don't call us call the power company).

So now I'm a little nervous- I didn't have to worry about hurricanes or tropical storms when I lived in a land-locked state. Luckily (somewhat luckily), last weekend I was inspired to purchase a 72-hour kit online after hearing some of the news out of New Orleans and it arrived today. I also have a couple gallons of water and plan to buy another gallon and some more non-perishable foods before the storm hits. The kit is pretty fancy- I now own a "Hand-Pressing Flashlight" (no batteries needed), a survival whistle (with compass and lanyard), an emergency poncho, playing cards, a first aid kit, emergency rations, dust mask, water-proof matches, some fresh naps, and a FM radio, among other things. I ordered it off Amazon from Survival Kit Online. It's very handy dandy! Without actually using it, I would recommend everyone gets one- it can't hurt to have it- I feel better already.

Rusty likes it too...

Labor Day

Happy Labor Day! For those of you who actually get the day off enjoy it. Those of us at W&M do not get the day off- I'm not really sure why we have no respect for National Holidays but what can you do?
